DRAFT RTA Strategic Plan for
Public Comment
RTA has released a draft Strategic Plan - Invest in Transit - which makes the case for funding priorities
The Regional Transportation Authority has released a draft 2018-2023 Regional Strategic Plan for public comment. Through the Strategic Plan, the Chicago region's transit agencies - RTA, CTA, Metra and Pace - joined forces to talk about the capital investments that are needed over the next five years to deliver great public transportation in light of changing demographics, transportation, and technology. The resulting Strategic Plan will serve as a guide to each of the transit agencies in planning and funding future projects as well as carrying out the unique day-to-day activities needed to meet passenger needs that vary widely across the large and diverse region.
The strategic plan is structured around three broad policy goals:
1. Deliver value on our investment - This goal focuses on the positive impacts of transit investment and the importance of increasing funding.
2. Build on the strengths of our network - This goal focuses on the service improvements and infrastructure investments that the Transit Agencies would like to make in key transit markets throughout the region.
3. Stay Competitive - This goal focuses on the vital role that transit plays as part of the region's mobility network and strategies for adapting to the evolving needs of riders.
The deadline for submitting comments on the plan is December 31, 2017.

ON TO 2050 Stakeholder Engagement
CMAP will be looking to interview area residents on a variety topics in the coming months
Share your story.
The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning is developing the region's next comprehensive plan, ON TO 2050, and they want to hear from you. CMAP wants to tell the story of a resident who has had their home flood multiple times and can speak about the financial and emotional cost of that experience. If you have tried to reduce your flooding or encouraged your local leaders to do so, CMAP wants to hear about it.
CMAP will be conducting pre-interviews with people on a variety of topics through December and January.

South Elgin Electronics
Drop-off to Close
One of three Kane County electronics recycling locations will close this month
The Electronics Recycling Drop-off location at 735 Martin Drive in South Elgin at the old Public Works building is set to close permanently as of Friday, December 29th, 2017.
The County and their electronics recycling contractor, eWorks Electronics Services, have partnered with the Village of South Elgin since September of 2016, who hosted the site. Because South Elgin Public Works staff are now located at another building, they are not able to continue to provide assistance with forklifting the materials into the trucks and so the site has to be closed.
Kane County's other two locations will remain open. They are in West Dundee and Batavia, open 40 hours a week during the hours listed below.

Kane County Planners Forum 2017
Kane County hosted the annual Planners Forum at Kuipers Family Farm
In December Kane County's annual forum for planning practitioners continued the
Corridors of Kane theme with a focus on Kane County's agricultural lands. The event was hosted at Kuipers Family Farm in Maple Park and featured presentations on a variety topics and projects impacting the use of farmland in Kane County.
Development Director, Mark VanKerkhoff, and owner, Wade Kuipers, led off the forum discussing the function of Kane County's F2 zoning district and how the Kuipers Farm was able grow their successful operation as an F2 business. The Elgin History Museum showcased a preview of Dairies to Prairies, a documentary film that will tell the story of Elgin's dairy heritage and explore how these former dairy farms have come under pressure from suburban development.
Kane County staff also gave presentations on ongoing planning projects, including a new Local Technical Assistance project with CMAP to study Transfer of Development Rights as a farmland preservation and reinvestment tool
 for the region. Executive Planner, Janice Hilll presented the concept with CMAP's Brian Daly, exploring successful TDR projects across the country.
The Forum's annual awards ceremony also recognized the distinguished planning work of a Kane County community and a planning practitioner. This year the Downtown Master Plan for Aurora was awarded 2017 Plan of the Year, and Bill Wiet, Aurora's Chief Development Services Officer, was recognized as the Planner of the Year.
